Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, February 23, 2010...

Outside My Window...the sun is shining, it is warm and I am soooo happy. I have been cold since Christmas, not just outside, cold until my bones hurt. Welcome Spring. Unfortunately, the rain and cold are coming soon.

I am thinking...about all of the planning that must be done for graduation. I do not remember my senior year in high school being so demanding.

I am thankful for...a God who remains the same yesterday, today and forever, that is not surprised by my ever-changing situations and that works it all together for my good.

From the learning rooms...history, book club, math, and keeping on schedule.

From the kitchen...fresh farm eggs, a freezer full of meat, homemade~bread, granola and cookies, soap made three weeks ago can now be put to good use, and I must make some more laundry soap.

I am wearing...yoga pants, t-shirt and sneakers in hopes of a little bit of exercise time.

I am creating...(still)a very large booga bag, felted coasters, and a "studio" sloooooowly.

I am going...to complete a couple of knitting projects so I can start one that I am so excited about.

I am reading...the one year chronological Bible, knitting patterns and not much else.

I am hoping...to get a very bad case of poison ivy under control. Hannah woke up with eyes nearly swollen shut and we are trying to figure out what to do.

I am hearing...quiet as I think and the clicking of keys as I type, it is still early.

Around the house...we are still dreaming of building a barn.

One of my favorite things...a group, of ladies, that meets at a local coffee shop for knitting. People come and go in our group but there is a small core that remain committed.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: the usual things we do each week.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...poor poison ivy girl ~ she looks so uncomfortable. Amazingly no complaining. I think we may head to the clinic tonight.

Thank you Peggy for hosting this constant post on my blog. I know if I manage to get only one post done in a week, it will be my Daybook.

happy birthday to the mister

Happy Birthday to you!
To my best friend,
To my favorite room mate,
To my favorite cook,
To the boss,
To the CEO of our business,
To the father of our five children,
To the one who reminds me to praise Him in all circumstances,
To the one who never complains because my jobs are not done,
To the one who never complains about going to work to provide for our large family,
May God grant you many more years to accomplish the work He has called you to do.
I Love You!

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, February 15, 2010...

Outside My Window...cold and it is expected to stay for the next week. We are really having a winter this year.

I am thinking...about a very "sweet" day we shared yesterday and a birthday celebration coming tomorrow.

I am thankful for...lots of rain in this normally dry season and family celebrations.

From the learning rooms...schedules ~ for the first time. I have homeschooled my children for about 14 years and I am now requiring a certain number of hours, verses subjects or projects, to be completed. After using this new method for three weeks, I must say... love it. No more are my children rushing to finish there work, wishing they were somewhere else, wandering to any location other than the school room. More reading for enjoyment is taking place and we are almost caught up in just a short time. I can always dismiss them early, but the daily struggle has become peace, yeah!

From the kitchen...spaghetti and meatballs, chicken and dumplings, beef (Stew (the cow) is home and in the freezer), breakfast for supper, and stir fry.

I am wearing...jeans, long sleeve shirt, sweater and clogs (this has been my winter uniform). I am moving early and not in jammies, wow.

I am creating...a very large booga bag, felted coasters, and a "studio" sloooooowly.

I am going...nowhere today and this makes me happy:-)

I am reading...the one year chronological Bible, knitting patterns and not much else.

I am hoping...Jacob gets an answer soon about his school of music audition.

I am hearing...the train moving down the track and a rooster crowing in the darkness.

Around the house...things are messy and it looks like winter ~ blankets on couches and chairs, hot chocolate cups, a fire in the fire place, winter decorations, Olympics on TV and dirty windows.

One of my favorite things...bouncing baby goats.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: two long trips to pick up shipments for work, a birthday celebration, lots of school work, time in the studio, thoughts of spring cleaning...

Here is picture thought I am sharing...Thank you Peggy for hosting this constant post on my blog. I know if I manage to get only one post done in a week, it will be my Daybook.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... February 8, 2010

Outside my window...
dark and cold.

I am thinking... about changing our dog Emma's diet to real food. I'm not sure and I'm still doing the research but she has developed epilepsy and believe her diet could cause more seizures.

I am thankful for... the official end of football season. I have a love hate relationship with football and so I am happy to see it come and often more happy to see it go.

From the learning rooms... new schedules

From the kitchen... soup, soup and soup ~ baby it's cold outside.

I am wearing... jeans, undershirt and sweatshirt.

I am creating... this booga bag (picture included after a couple of people asked what it is. The entire bag is a knit stich (I think that might be called garter.) and then felted. I felted mine by had and wanted it to be a little stiffer. A lady in my knitting group was kind enough to take it home and put it in her machine. I do not have a machine with an agitator.

I am going... to get new knitting needles so that I can start my next project. It is a caplet type thiny made out of the most delicious yarn I have ever used, it's going to be so fun.

I am reading... Sign of the Beaver, with Caleb. Do Hard Things, as a family read-aloud.

I am hoping... for a much better week than last, things were tough around here. I was struggling emotionally, very overwhelmed and frustrated.

I am praying for... a music audition this weekend and college plans to materialize.

Pondering these words... by C.S. Lewis on the subject of worship. "I did not see that it is in the process of being worshiped that God communicates His presence to men.

I am hearing... Emma whine because she wants to be outside running, but it is just too cold for her.

Around the house... things are pretty straight (except for that studio space, but it's coming along) so this means I get to work on a few projects.

One of my favorite things... Superbowl commercials. A popular soda company had the worst commercials and my favorite was this.

A few plans for the rest of the week: much of the usual stuff, but with a little more scheduling added for sanity purposes.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...two boys fishing in the rain.Head over to Peggy's to read more Daybooks and meet other women who share how they accomplish simplicity in their everyday life.

all by herself

This is the very first cake she has ever baked "all by herself".
Banana cake with creamy butter frosting. It was delicious.
It was two different sizes because we don't own two cake pans. She had to borrow one from a neighbor and then decided it would be too small if she trimmed it. I know she will be happy to practice when she gets two pans that are the same size. Can't wait to taste the next one.
No one minded the different sizes and more than one person commented that it tasted like banana bread with icing.
I will post more yummy updates as they become available.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... February 1, 2010

Outside my window...
cloudy with rain later today. A cool week ahead outside and comfort food inside, yum.

I am thinking... how good it feels to clean out. The attic has been cleaned out, the upstairs cleaned out, re-purposed, and soon to be cleaned and freshly embellished.

I am thankful for... a good first time mama goat. Mamas can need a little training when they kid the first time and she had me feeling a little unsure, I'm glad that lasted only a few hours. The sound of this little girl (been a while since we had a girl) is too sweet.

From the learning rooms... book study; A Cricket In Time Square. Time to start working on some 4-H projects. We need to write speeches, learn the parts of a goat and chicken and check to see what else we need to do.

From the kitchen... ribs, clean out the freezer week ~ the cow leaves today and the freezer will be stocked in two weeks.

I am wearing... yoga pants, long-johns, sweatshirt and clogs.

I am creating... a felted booga bag and dreaming about the next knitting project.

I am going... ???

I am reading... Sign of the Beaver, with Caleb. Do Hard Things, as a family read-aloud.

I am hoping... God will give clear direction as to what will be best for the next step for Jacob's education and that Seth can be very successful in English 1101.

I am praying for... for Jacob's school of music audition (this month) and scholarship information.

Pondering these words... The Gift of Ordinary Day, watch this and hug your children a little closer when you tuck them in tonight.

I am hearing... two girls make soft-boiled eggs for their breakfast, a boy use the 4-wheeler to take out a mountain of trash ~ did all of that really live in this space with us?

Around the house... I'm so enjoying clean empty spaces. It is fun to wait for inspiration as to what to do next.

One of my favorite things... the sent of a new baby. Hoping to meet a new wee one this week.

A few plans for the rest of the week: ACT testing, Valentines making~planning and decorating, and I'm not sure what else.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...just born, Heidi January 27, 2010.
