Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... January 25, 2010

Outside my window...
we are in a tornado warning and the rain is coming down in sheets.

I am thinking... about all the people I would like to visit in the hospitals, nursing homes or their homes. I know this is not the season of my life, but I wish I could.

I am thankful for... God's provision and the timing of it.

From the learning rooms... the usual subjects and increased consistency in History and Science.

From the kitchen... turkey, pilau, ribs, and anything else in the freezer. Our cow goes to market next weekend and Dad thinks the freezer may not be large enough to hold him.

I am wearing... jammies.

I am creating... studio space and one gigantic pile to donate to a charity garage sale.

I am going... to miss having a cow in the front pen. We have had goats for more than seven years; and we buy, sell, trade and kid them, but they do not have near the personality of our cow and pig.

I am reading... Sign of the Beaver, with Caleb.

I am hoping... everyone handles the cow going to market OK. This is the first time we have raised large livestock and then sent it to market. They have helped work chickens and my little farmer man has helped slaughter pigs at a friends farm, but he has spent a lot of time taking care of Stew (the cow).

I am praying for... the children of Haiti. Orphans are especially heavy on my heart. Parents that were recently told the adoption of their daughter would take another year brought here home last Thursday. Yet others that are willing have been told everything is on hold due to the paperwork chaos created by the earthquake.

Pondering these words... Grace is the undeserved favor of God shown to those who deserve His wrath. Grace is what I am focusing on this year. The grace of God I experience and then extended to my children and those around me. Grace is sometimes very hard to work through.

I am hearing... viola practice.

Around the house... I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Most items are in the rooms they should be and, by this time next week, I'm hoping to have finished organizing and started some spring cleaning. I hope to also have a list made so that I can start a little thrifting.

One of my favorite things... when a friend asks, "What size does Caleb where?" without having any idea that he needs jeans and black dress pants for orchestra. They fit perfectly and he is so happy.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I will be making 10 sheet cakes, the end of this week, for a large church function.

Here is picture thought I am sharing... digging out.

Frosty Girl

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... January 18th, 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Outside my window... temperatures will be hovering around 70 degrees all week. A far cry from the couple of weeks of freezing temps. We are looking forward to some time outside.

I am thinking... about Haiti. We spent an hour last night listening to people who were there on a mission trip, we saw footage of a documentary they were taping when the earthquake actually happened and the testimony of how God delivered them all safely.

I am thankful for... the wonderful gift of laughter. Following the NewMissions presentation we laughed for over a solid hour, my sides are sore this morning.

I am wearing... jammies. Later, I'm planning to wear a skirt and top.

I am remembering... the stories my mother told me about black and white schools, water fountains, and restaurants and I am glad that my children will never know a time like that.

I am going... to a scrapbook co-op and tea party this afternoon.

I am currently reading... the same three books I've listed for the last 3 weeks. Not too much time for reading, but the turtle won the race.

I am hoping... to finish the bedrooms upstairs. We are still missing items from moving three rooms last week. We need more order and less frustration. I am also hoping that my older boys have chosen good classes and teachers for this semester; school starts tomorrow.

On my mind... the huge amount of ministry that is taking place in Haiti. Great things are happening there and to Him be all the glory.

Noticing that... I am not moving too quickly on my 100 photos project. I'm planning to change that this week.

Pondering these words... nothing happens without God knowing it. He is not surprised by anything, even when we are.

From the kitchen... more stir-fry. I think we eat this everyday, and I never tire of it.

Around the house... catching up, cleaning out, and making lists 1)a load of dirt delivered 2)septic tank pumped out 3)driveway scrubbed 4)windows done (this lists never ends)

One of my favorite things~ clouds flying across a full moon during a bitterly cold night

From my picture journal... stir-fry on any given night

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...January 8, 2010 (OK it's the 11th, I think I lost several days.)

Outside my window...icy cold. We do not have winters like we are having this year. I do like it, but it is my frame of mind that is struggling. If I knew it would be cold for a month then I would be prepared mentally. I am used to it being cold for a day or two and then warm again. Oh,and I would own more cold weather clothes.

I am thinking...it would be nice for winter to be like this every year.

I am thankful for...heat, gas fires and wood fires.

I am wearing... yoga pants, long~underwear top with t-shirt over it and clogs.

I am remembering...to trust Him in all things. I am reminded again and again that He takes care of even the small simple details if I will make my petition known and just leave it there.

I am going...to be setting up a "studio" (aka: craft room) for me and the girls.

I am currently reading...My one year Bible, Bight Arrows, Do the Hard Thing.

I am hoping...to finish the upstairs.

On my mind...all of the things that must be done for Jacob's senior year. It has sure changed since I was in school and there are so many things that must be done by certain deadlines.

Noticing that...everyone feels a little lighter when deep cleaning (room rearranging) happens.

Pondering these words..."I can't believe we had this much junk. I think things must be growing in there. It's dangerous, you might not want to go in there. I don't want any of the stuff that's in there. Just get rid of it all." words spoken by three boys that shared this room for eight and a half years.

From the kitchen...beans soaking, tons of stir-fry, soup, homemade tortillas.

Around the house...Daddy's on vacation and we wanted to do a lot of outside work. Since the weather is not cooperating maybe a little outside work and a lot of inside work. In addition, family meals, movies, games, and an outing or two. Happy to have this time off and get some children and things in order.

One of my favorite things~frosty mornings, a dusting of ice on my windshield that looks like snow.

From my picture journal...It snowed for the first time in twenty years...

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY...January 4, 2010, Happy New Year!

Outside my window...cold, cold, cold. The fireplace has burned more in the last three days than all of last year.

I am thinking...about a college schedule for boy number two.

I am thankful for...clean starts, fresh beginnings and memories to hold dear to my heart.

I am wearing...very cozy jammies.

I am remembering...those missing loved ones away at war.

I am going...to read the entire Bible this year. I am so excited about this adventure. A couple of people have shown interest in joining me, please let me know if you do so.

I am currently reading...the Bible, cover to cover, Do Hard Things(by the Harris Twins), and Bright Arrows(by Grace Livingston Hill).

I am hoping...to finish my first knitting project of 2010 by tomorrow, now that is a good start.

On my mind...still photography, for the 100photos project.

Noticing that...it's still looking a lot like Christmas around our house.

Pondering these words...a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips. Wishing I could remember this when I choose to eat the wrong thing.

From the kitchen...chili, and maybe a Daniel fast.

Around the house...the remnants of Christmas and the smell of scented candles.

One of my favorite things~cold weather, warm fires, family game night with lots of laughter (OK, that was more than one thing, but all of these rolled together in one night, smile).

From my picture journal...making Christmas cookies...
