Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March30, 2009...

Outside my window...the sky is very blue, the sun is shining, the air has cooled and will be in the low 70's today. The garden is in and we had good rain over the weekend.

I am thinking...how in the world will all of these things get done this week, and how much fun a cousins weekend is going to be.

I am thankful for...life lessons and knowing that God is in control.

From the learning rooms...weather co-op presentations are ready and will be given today. An assessment of what needs to get finished before an extended break will happen within the next two weeks.

From the kitchen...a tremendous amount of cooking and planning. I am on the servant's ministry team this month at church and many meals are needed. Having a large family, that is often times too busy, can make meals a dreaded chore. As I was pleading with God to give me ideas and telling Him how willing I am to do this labor of love, giving sacrificially, ideas were coming faster than I could run the grocery isles, or reach paper and pen to record them. God is so amazing when I get our of the way and stop focusing on me.

I am wearing...garden clothes.(laundry hangin and garden waterin attire)

I am creating...a crocheted market bag.

I am going...to knitting and to sit with a dear friend while her family goes to church.

I am reading...only my Bible, no fiction, finished Message in a Bottle.

I am hoping...the cough my husband is suffering from is healed.

I am hearing...girls chattering with "babies".

Around the house...closets are almost finished and deep cleaning has begun.

One of my favorite things...the smell of homemade red sauce on the stove.

A few plans for the rest of the week: other than what has been stated, ???

Here is picture thought I am sharing...remembering two of my favorite cowboys on a trail in one of our favorite places.

Show and Tell

Well here they are...SOCKS!

I can't believe they're done, that I can wear them, that they actually match, or that I made them.

I really love knitting. I also crochet and people do ask which I like better. I never know how to answer this question and probably don't have enough experience in either for my opinion to matter. BUT today, my answer would have to be knitting.

If you have been wanting to learn to knit or crochet, I highly recommend it.

Find a coffee shop, class, club, store, friend, do whatever you must do, just don't give up until you make it work.

Need ideas, just ask I'll help you brainstorm.
Caution: If you decided to make a pair of these "yummy boot socks", once finished I recommend rocking on the porch with your feet up. This will help eliminate walking into walls while admiring your work of art.

Outside my window...it is gray and raining, Praise the Lord.

I am thinking...the list for today is full and over flowing.

I am thankful for...Rain! and finished Socks!

From the learning rooms...weather reports for co-op, Mystery of History and the usuals...

From the kitchen...banana bread and strawberry cheesecake trifle.

I am wearing...new slippers.

I am creating...a crocheted market bag.

I am going...on a date with my husband this week.

I am reading...Message in a Bottle, almost finished.

I am hoping...I am not too late getting seeds in the ground.

I am hearing...the chatter of my children, and a son playing cello.

Around the house...my closets are torn apart and I just want to stand and look at the ones I have already put back together.

One of my favorite things...knitting club.
A few plans for the rest of the week: finishing closets, all rooms organized and put together so real spring cleaning can begin, seeds put in the garden.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...Finished Socks!

oh happy day!

At our house we love strawberries. If you travel over near the fields, the prices drop even more. Below are some pictures of what our house has looked like this week.

The perfect berry!

Berries have been washed and frozen for smoothies all year.
(well, they may not last that long)
"Mom, can you make strawberry cobbler, is there such a thing?"
Well, I don't know if that is any cookbook, but I don't see why not.
Maybe there will be pictures of that to follow.
Wishing you a berry nice weekend!

bling

My sweet husband gave me a Valentine's Day card that included the following line, "good for one Lisa Leonard item". Yeah!!

It was a very tough decision and, due to changing my mind many times, I was slow to order.
A few weeks ago procrastination worked in my favor (for a change) when she had a free earring Friday. Time to make a final decision and tell myself I would just have to order again.
I decided to wait until the man that bought this piece was home and comfy to open this little box he blessed me with.

Thank you honey, I love it!

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 16, 2009...
Outside my window...the rooster is crowing, in the distance the train is passing, and the sky is still dark.

I am thinking...of the many people around me that are hurting. A friend facing breast cancer, two friends suffering from the loss of husbands, one recent and the other struggling to go on.

I am thankful for...a God who loves us and never leaves us...in spite of the emotions we attach to Him and His character.

From the learning rooms...weather reports, history and science.

From the kitchen...meal preparations for friends, menu planning for a cousins weekend coming the beginning of April.

I am wearing...yoga clothes.

I am creating...a market bag.

I am going...to pick up a shipment for my husband 3 hours from home.

I am reading...this book

I am hoping...someone will get the garden going.

I am hearing...silence, at this very moment.

Around the house...I am finding myself aggravated. The treadmill would not work this morning and the digital channel with my yoga class is not coming in. I really do need my exercise and less frustration. All this aside, closets and rooms are being purged of things we do not use or need.

One of my favorite things...family supper. These are treasured as my children get older.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Here is picture thought I am sharing...SRING!

a perfect ending

What happens when you come to the end of the weekend and you're just not quite ready for it to end?...Take a trip to the beach for a shuttle launch.
We have had a very full weekend here and the next month seems full of "livin" also.
A short amount of time tonight was spent at the beach with friends to see the shuttle off.
There were no scrubs and no dissapointment. I think this was one of the prettiest launches I can remember. So...3,2,1
Shuttle Discovery lifted off , right on time, at 7:43. We made it, with 2 minutes to spare.

The picture does not do it justice, but the sun was reflected in the cloud left behind by Discovery. I am sure this exhaust has some fancy name, but at the moment I have no idea what that is.
Now, what's a kid to do once the shuttle is safely in outer space?
Play of course WE'RE AT THE BEACH!
Over the dunes and behind the sea oats, the sun was setting too quickly Tomorrow awaits with new adventures all it's own, goodnight.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 9, 2009...

Outside my window...it is dark. The clocks were moved forward and the sunrise has changed.

I am thinking...Why can't we just leave the clocks where they are?

I am thankful for...The Peasall Family and the Sister's ministry. A wonderful family and role model for those with young girls. Google them to here there songs.

From the learning rooms...weather co-op and "normal" activities.

From the kitchen...I have not given this one second of thought. We have been surviving, which means not nearly enough veggies have been consumed, now it's time to think through this activity.
I am wearing...yoga clothes.

I am creating...a second sock, the first one is finished!

I am going...to the memorial service of a friend who passed away suddenly at 47.

I am reading...Message in a Bottle, since the middle of last month. Not a lot of time for fictional reading.

I am hoping...to write a couple of letters and till the garden this week.

I am hearing...the hum of my husband at work.

Around the house...things are in disarray, much living has gone on here the past 5 days.

One of my favorite things...my girls working along side whatever activity is on the list for the day.

A few plans for the rest of the week: baseball games, orchestra rehearsal, across the state to pick up an order for my husband, wherever my calendar has scheduled, I'm not sure.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

The Peasall Sisters with three little girls that love to sing their songs.

reflection

"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
Psalms 119:11

As this season of lent begins, we are reminded that the biblical process of cleansing and repentance is not just "for a season", but a necessary daily action.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" Psalms 139:23-27
I want to live the victorious life that my creator and savior has offered, even though I know what they are saying on the 6:00 news.
I want to walk holy in spite of the disgusting perversion that is reported every day.
I will fight for the truths this country was founded on and refuse to be distracted by the emotional falsities of my modern culture.
How will I do this...by looking up and not about.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."Palms 121:1-2
Praying you have a blessed day.
In the sweet words of my husband, "your victory is in your praise!"

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY March 2, 2009...
Outside My Window...it is windy and cold.

I am thinking...about what must be done this week and how relaxing my weekend was.
I am thankful for...my children filling my house with music.

From the learning rooms...the usual activities with 4-H projects due in less than 2 weeks. This would not be so bad except we have not started.
From the kitchen...strawberry muffins and veggies, Farmers Market was great last week.
I am wearing...layers, it is COLD!
I am creating...what else? Socks! I had only the toes left to close on my first sock, when my instructor pulled it out all the way back to the heel. By the time I do the next one it should be a piece of cake.
I am going...To an orchestra concert tonight, knitting tomorrow night and baseball games.
I am reading...Message in a Bottle...still!
I am hoping...to finish my sock and start the next one.
I am hearing...the couple of people that are up talk about how cold it is and is going to stay for a few days. They should be glad we live in the deep south. The pictures of the northeast look miserable.
Around the house...cleaning and major yard work still continue.
One of my favorite things...farm fresh eggs.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: projects, most mentioned above.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
